Description
Phillips pan head machine screw is often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes. Length is measured from the under side of the head. The phillips drive style is designed so that the driver would slip out under extreme torque, preventing over-tightening and damage to the fastener or the material. Coarse threads are sturdier and are easier to thread and unthread compared to fine. See diagram for how length is measured.
